Maternity pictures (and when to take them)

A frequent question that I get asked is “When is a good time to take maternity pictures?” And so, I thought I would just go ahead and put the answer out there! Keep reading and I will cover all the details so that your maternity session is amazing!
I get it mama! You are excited about your pregnancy and the new addition to your family! Maybe you are unsure of how beautiful you will feel as your body changes from growing that new little life inside of you.
First of all, congratulations!
Second – you deserve a little love and pampering! Whether you are wanting belly-baring pictures or more modest ones, I want you to know I am here for you! Maternity pictures are a great way to celebrate your pregnancy and document this milestone in your life.
The best time for pictures of your growing bump:
As far as the best time – the general “best time” for maternity pictures is in the 30-34 week window of your pregnancy. Your belly will be round enough to show off, but not so large that you’ll feel uncomfortable or tired during the maternity session.
How far in advance should I schedule maternity photos?
Planning ahead is essential! Go ahead and book that session at about 24 weeks so there is plenty of time to plan.
A few more things to consider when booking a maternity photography session:
Another factor to consider is weather. If the time frame for your maternity pictures is in the middle of summer (July-August) we may want to consider holding your session at at a creekside location where the water can be incorporated in your session, and you also get to cool off a bit. Another option is an in home session, or renting a local studio. Either way, planning and booking ahead will be your best bet!
